Some of the new 2011 tax filing changes:
Due date of return: Due to the observance of the Emancipation Day Holiday in Washington, D.C., Form 1040 is due by April 17, 2012, instead of April 15.
Standard mileage rates: The 2011 rate for business use of your vehicle increased to 51 cents a mile (55 1/2 cents a mile after June 30, 2011). The rate for use of your vehicle to get medical care or move is increased to 19 cents a mile (23 1/2 cents a mile after June 30, 2011).
Health savings accounts (HSAs) and Archer MSA: The additional tax on distributions from HSAs and Archer MSAs not used for qualified medical expenses has increased to 20% for distributions after 2010.
Expired tax benefit: The Making Work Pay Credit has expired. Schedule M is no longer in use.
